NASCAR Cup Series: William Byron takes pole for 2019 Bank of America Roval 400

William Byron took the pole position for the second NASCAR Cup Series race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway roval, the Bank of America Roval 400.

Hendrick Motorsports’ William Byron took his fifth pole position of the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series season for the third race of the four-round, 10-race playoffs at the Charlotte Motor Speedway roval, the Bank of America Roval 400.

This pole position ties Byron with Stewart-Haas Racing’s Kevin Harvick for the most pole positions among all drivers this season. Byron also took the pole position for the series’ first visit to Charlotte Motor Speedway in late may for the Coca-Cola 600 on the track’s oval.

Byron took the pole position for this Sunday afternoon’s 109-lap race around the 17-turn, 2.28-mile (3.669-kilometer) Charlotte Motor Speedway roval in Concord, North Carolina by recording a top lap time of 80.932 seconds (103.198 miles per hour) in his #24 Chevrolet in the second and final round of qualifying for this race.

Teammate Alex Bowman qualified in second place in his #88 Chevrolet, giving Hendrick Motorsports their sixth front row lockout of the season.

Team Penske’s Joey Logano was the highest qualifying Ford driver for this race. He qualified in third place in his #22 Ford and is set to start alongside another Hendrick Motorsports driver, Jimmie Johnson, in fourth in his #48 Chevrolet on row two. Among the non-playoff drivers who are set to compete in this race, Johnson qualified in the highest position by far.

Stewart-Haas Racing teammates Clint Bowyer and Harvick qualified on row three in fifth and sixth place in their #14 Ford and #4 Ford, respectively.

Chip Ganassi Racing’s Kyle Larson was the highest qualifying non-Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet driver for this race. He qualified in seventh place in his #42 Chevrolet and is set to start alongside the highest qualifying Toyota driver for the race, Joe Gibbs Racing’s Martin Truex Jr., in eighth in his #19 Toyota on row four.

Set to round out the top 10 on row five are Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney in ninth place in his #12 Ford and Wood Brothers Racing’s Paul Menard in 10th in his #21 Ford.

The slowest two of the 12 drivers who advanced to the second and final round of qualifying for this race were Team Penske’s Brad Keselowski and JTG Daugherty Racing’s Chris Buescher. They qualified in 11th and 12th place in their #2 Ford and #37 Chevrolet, respectively.
