NASCAR Cup Series: Quin Houff to drive for StarCom Racing in 2020
By Asher Fair
Quin Houff is set to replace Landon Cassill as the full-time driver of the #00 Chevrolet for StarCom Racing in the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series season.
After competing in 17 of the 36 races on the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series schedule, Quin Houff is set to compete full-time in the 2020 season for StarCom Racing, which formed a technical alliance with Richard Childress Racing and acquired a charter from the team in December of 2018 and are set to contest their third full season next year.
The 22-year-old Weyers Cave, Virginia native is set to replace Landon Cassill behind the wheel of the #00 Chevrolet after Cassill drove the car on a full-time basis in the 2019 season.
Houff competed in 13 races behind the wheel of the #77 Chevrolet for Spire Motorsports in 2019, and he drove for Premium Motorsports, which have a technical alliance with Spire Motorsports, in the other four, doing so behind the wheel of the #15 Chevrolet on one occasion and behind the wheel of the #27 Chevrolet on three.
He finished in the top 30 on four occasions, and his best finish was his 28th place finish in the May race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Houff’s deal to compete full-time for StarCom Racing is a two-year deal that extends through the 2021 season.
Here is what team manager Derrike Cope had to say about the addition of Houff to the team for next year, according to NASCAR.
"“In our efforts to continue the progression of StarCom Racing, we have many plans for building the team in 2020 and being prepared for the introduction of the Next Gen car. I am pleased to have young and passionate driver, Quin Houff, to continue his progression in the NASCAR Cup Series. He is a delightful, quick-witted young man that is eager to finally showcase his talents and race in his first Daytona 500!”"

StarCom Racing added that “we have a commitment to Landon that we plan to honor in 2020”, but the details of Cassill’s role within the organization will be available at a later time.
The 30-year-old Cedar Rapids, Iowa native has competed in the Cup Series on some level in each of the last 10 seasons, only not competing in at least 29 races in his rookie season back in 2010 when he competed in 16 events. He competed in all 36 races on the 2019 schedule for the fifth time in his career, but he was not eligible to score Cup Series points.
His best finish in the 2019 season was his 11th place finish in the July race at Daytona International Speedway, a race ironically won by the #77 Chevrolet driven by Justin Haley after it was ended early due to rain. Had Cassill not come into the pits from second place before the anticipated but waved-off restart, he would have been the winner.
With Landon Cassill out of a full-time ride in the NASCAR Cup Series, where, if anywhere, will he end up in the 2020 season? What will StarCom Racing’s commitment to him be for next year?
