IndyCar: Dreyer & Reinbold Racing to compete in at least 4 races in 2020
By Asher Fair
Dreyer & Reinbold Racing are slated to up their commitment to IndyCar in the 2020 season, competing in more than the Indy 500 for the first time since 2013.
Since the 2014 IndyCar season, former full-time team Dreyer & Reinbold have competed solely in the Indianapolis 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway each year.
That is set to change in 2020, and in a positive direction.
For the first time since Oriol Servia drove in the first five races of the season for the team back in 2013, Dreyer & Reinbold Racing are set to compete in more than just the 200-lap race around the four-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval in Speedway, Indiana.
The team confirmed this news on Twitter, and stated that more specifics are coming soon.
Team owner Dennis Reinbold went into slightly more detail, but there is still a bit left up in the air, to be announced at a later date. Here is what he had to say about his team’s 2020 plans, according to RACER.
"“We’re going to run St. Pete and Toronto to go with both races at Indianapolis. It’s baby steps, a little at a time, and our goal is still to get to full-time status, but with WIX help we’re able to go in the right direction. We’re going to test at Sebring next week because we have to try and get up to speed on street courses, and I think we’ve got a good plan in place. [IndyCar president] Jay Frye was good enough to get us an aeroscreen so we could go to Florida, and I’m excited to see where we’re at.”"

This move is not entirely shocking considering the fact that this has been the team’s goal for several seasons, and they had already made progress, fielding two cars in each of the last two Indy 500s after fielding only one from 2012 to 2017.
The race on the streets of St. Petersburg is the first of 17 races on the schedule and is scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 15. The two Indianapolis races, the first being the race on the road course and the second being the Indy 500, are the fifth and sixth races on the schedule and scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 9 and Sunday, May 24, respectively.
The race on the streets of Toronto is the 12th race of the season and is scheduled to take place on Sunday, July 12, and they could very well add to this schedule, although the full-time goal won’t be met in 2020.
Reinbold went on to state that Sage Karam, who has driven for the team in five of the last six Indy 500s, will be one of their drivers and that J.R. Hildebrand, who has driven alongside Karam in the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing” in each of the last two seasons, is working on a deal to return.
