IndyCar: Juncos Racing planning to return in 2020
By Asher Fair
Juncos Racing took to Twitter to reveal that they are still planning to compete in the 2020 IndyCar season, and at a “bigger and better” level.
Juncos Racing made their IndyCar debut in 2017, fielding two cars in the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
In 2018, they upped their commitment to the series, fielding one entry in 12 of the 17 races on the schedule. Three drivers competed for the team throughout the year.
However, in 2019, they fielded one entry in only two races.

They notably qualified for the Indy 500 with Kyle Kaiser behind the wheel of the #32 Chevrolet in a massive upset over two-time Formula 1 champion Fernando Alonso.
Alonso’s McLaren team were shockingly sent packing after coming up short for the 33rd and final spot on the starting grid against the underdog Ricardo Juncos-owned team, the team that had done everything just to get Kaiser a car after he wrecked in practice earlier in the week.
They indeed got him a car, and after he had turned 175 laps in practice leading up to the qualifying session for this race, his four fastest laps of the month were lap 176, lap 177, lap 178 and lap 179 — and they effectively needed to be his fastest four laps by a decent gap for him to qualify for the race.
But ever since the race was contested the following weekend, Juncos Racing haven’t been back in IndyCar.
All in all, their drop-off in commitment to the series last year was disappointing, considering the fact that before the 2018 season even ended, a report emerged that they were targeting two cars throughout the 2019 campaign.
That obviously didn’t pan out.
The future has been mum for the team throughout the offseason between the 2019 and 2020 seasons, but they recently confirmed on Twitter that they do plan on returning to the series in 2020, and that they plan to make their program “bigger and better than ever”.

Whether or not this means more races, more cars, both, additional support, etc., nobody knows. But be on the lookout for a future announcement from this team, a team that became renowned within the IndyCar paddock for their grit, determination and perseverance last May.
How much of Juncos Racing will the 2020 IndyCar season feature? The season is scheduled to get underway in slightly over two months with the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, which is set to be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network from the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida beginning at 3:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, March 15.
