IndyCar: Sage Karam confirmed at Dreyer & Reinbold Racing for 2020
By Asher Fair
Sage Karam has been confirmed by Dreyer & Reinbold Racing as a part-time driver throughout the 2020 IndyCar season in a deal that includes the Indy 500.
Dreyer & Reinbold Racing confirmed earlier this week that they are set to increase their commitment to IndyCar in the 2020 season and compete in at least four races, a total that would be their highest since they competed in five races with Oriol Servia behind the wheel back in the 2013 season.
Since then, they have competed solely in the Indianapolis 500, although their goal is to become a full-time team again. They most recently competed full-time back in 2012 before tough financial circumstances hit the following year, ending their season prematurely.
From 2014 to 2017, they fielded just one car in this 200-lap race around the four-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval in Speedway, Indiana, but they upped it to two in 2018 and maintained the same two-car lineup, featuring Sage Karam and J.R. Hildebrand, in 2019.

Team owner Dennis Reinbold stated that the team would be competing in at least four races, according to RACER, including the race on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida, the race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course, the Indy 500 and then the race on the streets of Toronto.
He also stated definitively that Karam, who has driven for the team in five of the last six and each of the last four Indy 500s, would be back with the team, although he did not confirm to what extent that would be the case.
Now, according to IndyStar, Reinbold has confirmed that Karam is set to drive the #24 Chevrolet in each of the races in which they compete. No mention was made of the race on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course in this interview, but it is still believed that this race is a part of their plan.
Here is what Reinbold had to say.
"“I trust Sage implicitly. I can see the talent is there.”"
More than likely, Hildebrand will be back behind the wheel of the #48 Chevrolet alongside Karam for at least the Indy 500, although this deal is still in the works. More races could be added to the team’s schedule throughout the 2020 season depending on how their scheduled races go.
The 2020 IndyCar season is scheduled to get underway in just over two months with the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg on Sunday, March 15. This race is set to be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network beginning at 3:30 p.m. ET.
