A.J. Foyt Enterprises are slated to make another key announcement about the 2020 IndyCar season later today, this one pertaining to Tony Kanaan.

A.J. Foyt Enterprises entered last week without any confirmed drivers for their two cars throughout the 2020 IndyCar season, but they changed that by announcing that Charlie Kimball is set to join the team as the full-time driver of the #4 Chevrolet that had been driven by Matheus Leist in each of the last two years.

This news still left the seat of the #14 Chevrolet open for the entire 17-race season. Tony Kanaan has driven the #14 Chevrolet on a full-time basis since the 2018 season, his 21st season in American open-wheel racing.

Now A.J. Foyt Enterprises are set to make another big announcement about their 2020 driver lineup later today, and the 45-year-old Brazilian is reportedly a major part of it.

More from IndyCar

It has been rumored for the last several weeks that Kanaan will be behind the wheel of the #14 Chevrolet for the five oval races on the schedule, including the Indianapolis 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway as well as the races at Texas Motor Speedway, Richmond Raceway, Iowa Speedway and World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway.

It is believed that this deal will be confirmed today and that this will leave the #14 Chevrolet open for the 12 road and street course races on the schedule. Former Indy Lights driver Dalton Kellett has been rumored as a possible candidate to drive for the team in these races due to his funding situation, and Sebastien Bourdais has also been mentioned.

Bourdais, who is slated to compete full-time in IMSA this year for JDC-Mustang Sampling Racing, was unexpectedly released by Dale Coyne Racing with Vasser-Sullivan just two months after the 2019 season ended. Due to his IMSA commitment, a full-time schedule for IndyCar is already out of the question. A third entry for the Indy 500, however, is not out of the question.
