Tony Kanaan’s schedule to compete for A.J. Foyt Enterprises on a part-time basis throughout the 2020 IndyCar season has been confirmed.
Tony Kanaan, set to enter his 23rd season of American open-wheel racing in the 2020 IndyCar season, confirmed Thursday that he is set to be back with A.J. Foyt Enterprises for the upcoming 17-race campaign.
However, the 45-year-old Brazilian is set to compete part-time this year for the first time in his career. He and the team announced that he is set to drive the #14 Chevrolet, which he has driven in each of the last two seasons, in the five oval races on the schedule.
The five oval races include the 104th running of the Indianapolis 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway as well as races at Texas Motor Speedway, Richmond Raceway, Iowa Speedway and World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway.
After he competes in these five races, he is set to retire.

Kanaan has competed in 377 races in his career at the highest level of American open-wheel racing, including an all-time record 317 consecutive races going back to the 2001 season, a streak that is slated to end in the 2020 season with him only set to compete part-time.
He competed in 93 CART races from 1998 to 2002, and he has competed in 284 IndyCar Series races dating back to 2002. He won one CART race and recorded six podium finishes and four pole positions, and he has won 16 IndyCar races and recorded 72 podium finishes and 10 pole positions.
Kanaan has not won a race since he won at Auto Club Speedway in August of 2014, and he has not taken a pole position since he took the pole position at Richmond Raceway in June of 2008. He did take the pole position at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in October of 2011, but that race ended up being canceled after an early 15-car wreck took the life of Dan Wheldon.
Kanaan, who failed to finish on the podium for the first time since 2000 in the 2018 season, got back up on the podium with a third place finish in last year’s race at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway.
The 2020 IndyCar season is scheduled to get underway with the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida on Sunday, March 15, but Tony Kanaan’s is not set to begin until the 104th running of Indianapolis 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday, May 24.
