NASCAR: Live 2020 Fontana qualifying updates
By Asher Fair
Follow along with our live qualifying updates for the third race of the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series season, the Auto Club 400 at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana.
UPDATE: Provisional starting lineup
After the qualifying session for last Sunday afternoon’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway was canceled due to rain, the series is set for its first regular single-car qualifying session of the 2020 season.
The 36-race season opened up with the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway, and the qualifying format for that race is different than it is for every other race on the schedule.
But this weekend at Auto Club Speedway, it is back to the basics for Sunday afternoon’s Auto Club 400.

Each of the 38 drivers on the entry list is slated to complete one timed lap around the four-turn, 2.0-mile (3.219-kilometer) oval in Fontana, California, and those speeds will set the starting lineup for the 200-lap race.
It was last year’s disastrous group qualifying session at Auto Club Speedway that led to changes in the qualifying format, and further issues after changes were made led to the reinstatement of single-car qualifying.
Who will qualify where for Sunday’s Auto Club 400? Follow along with our live qualifying updates (beginning at 2:30 p.m. ET).
