Darlington Raceway

Let’s just get this one out of the way. Jimmie Johnson had a great car in Sunday’s race at Darlington Raceway. While leading on the final lap of stage one, he came upon the slower car of Chris Buescher, and they made contact.

Buescher’s car slid up the track and hit the wall, and Johnson didn’t have enough time to react. His car went spinning into the inside wall, ending his day in disappointment.

While it was far from a guaranteed win, it seemed that Johnson had one of the best cars in the field and certainly could’ve competed for the victory.

It seems like Johnson has just run into bad luck in his last few races at Darlington Raceway.

He had an oil pump issue with the car in 2018 and got collected in a wreck in 2019. Did I mention he was running top 10 at the time of the crash?

It feels like Johnson has a ton of wins at the track, but he only has three. While that’s a lot at one track for most drivers, we are talking about a driver with 83 career victories. Of course, he did capture Hendrick Motorsports’ 200th win as a team there back in 2012.

Maybe the biggest reason why Johnson has a good shot to win at Darlington Raceway is the fact that he still has two more races there this season. It doesn’t hurt to know he had such a good car in the first race. The #48 team know that their setup was effective, and they should have a good plan for the other two races there this season.
