Dover International Speedway

Ask any NASCAR fan what track Jimmie Johnson has had the most success at. I’m sure the majority of fans will say Dover International Speedway, and they would be right.

Johnson has a track record 11 wins at the Monster Mile, including his 83rd and most recent win in 2017.

He went on an unbelievable tear from 2009 to 2014 during which he led over 140 laps in 10 of those 11 races.

In his last seven races at the track, Johnson has recorded five top 10 finishes. Bad luck struck him in the fall race in 2018. The car was off the track when the green flag waved to start the race, and it was eventually discovered that there was an issue with the lower ball joint. Given the fact that he had four straight top 10 finishes at the track coming into that race, it’s not hard to believe that he would’ve had a strong run.

If nothing else, Johnson will always have his past success at the track to fall back on. He knows how to get around that place. He basically had the dominant car in every race at the track during that aforementioned six-year stretch.

Just in case you need another impressive statistic about Johnson at Dover International Speedway: he won his first two career starts there back in 2002. It’s tough to win at any track in your first career start, but especially at this one. Alex Bowman called last May’s race at Dover International Speedway “the physically hardest race of the year” after his second place finish.

Johnson could be presented with a unique opportunity in his final start at the track. There are talks that one race could be run on Saturday, August 22 with the other being run on the initially scheduled date of Sunday, August 23. The doubleheader would be a result of the spring race being postponed.
