NASCAR: Bristol All-Star Race starting lineup – Alex Bowman on pole
By Asher Fair
The full starting lineup for the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series All-Star Race has been set. Martin Truex Jr. is set to drop to the rear, giving Alex Bowman the pole position.
Following the NASCAR Cup Series All-Star Open at Bristol Motor Speedway, the full 20-car starting lineup for tonight’s All-Star Race at the same venue has been set.
The first 16 drivers were given their starting positions for tonight’s 140-lap race around the four-turn, 0.533-mile (0.858-kilometer) high-banked oval in Bristol, Tennessee based on a random draw that was conducted on Monday evening.
Three more drivers qualified for the race for $1 million by winning one of the three stages in tonight’s 85-lap All-Star Open at the track, and one more driver qualified for the race by winning the NASCAR Fan Vote.

Joe Gibbs Racing’s Martin Truex Jr. drew the pole position alongside Hendrick Motorsports’ Alex Bowman in second place. But Truex’s #19 Toyota failed pre-race inspection twice, so Bowman’s #88 Chevrolet is set to start from the pole position.
Bowman is set to be joined on the front row by Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney in second place in his #12 Ford. Technically, Blaney is the driver slated to advance to Truex’s number one starting spot since he is the driver who was initially slated to line up behind him in third. Blaney is set to have lane choice, but Bowman is still set to be the control car. While there will be a choose cone rule utilized for this race, that rule will not apply at the start.
The winners of the three stages of the All-Star Open were Stewart-Haas Racing’s Aric Almirola, Hendrick Motorsports’ William Byron and Wood Brothers Racing’s Matt DiBenedetto. Stewart-Haas Racing’s Clint Bowyer won the NASCAR Fan Vote.
These four drivers are set to line up in 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th place in their #10 Ford, #24 Chevrolet, #21 Ford and #14 Ford, respectively.
