Scott Dixon secured some semblance of revenge over Takuma Sato by leading him to the finish line at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway for his fourth win of the 2020 IndyCar season.

It’s hard to find a track where Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon hasn’t won an IndyCar race.

It just got even harder.

Dixon, six days removed from a gut-wrenching second place finish behind Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Takuma Sato in the 104th running of the Indy 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, led Sato across the finish line to become the 11th different winner in 11 races at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway.

Dixon’s victory in this 200-lap race around the four-turn, 1.25-mile (2.012-kilometer) oval in Madison, Illinois is his 50th career victory, which ranks third all-time. He ranks behind only A.J. Foyt (67) and Mario Andretti (52).

Sato was charging hard at the end of the race, but he didn’t have enough for the five-time champion. The reigning winner of the race had a slow final pit stop and finished just 0.1404 seconds behind the #9 Honda in his #30 Honda after rallying back.

Arrow McLaren SP’s Pato O’Ward led a race-high 94 laps but settled for third place behind the wheel of his #5 Chevrolet. He had the lead heading into his final pit stop, but Dixon’s crew got him out ahead of the 21-year-old Mexican who is still seeking his first career IndyCar victory.

Dixon’s victory was his fourth of the season, and no other driver has more than one through eight races.

The fact that Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden, his closest rival in the championship standings, only finished in a disappointing 12th place behind the wheel of the #1 Chevrolet in what was a disastrous race for Roger Penske’s team, has put him one step closer to winning his sixth championship.
