Takuma Sato took the pole position for the second IndyCar race of this weekend’s doubleheader at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway.

Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Takuma Sato is set to start this Sunday where he left off last Sunday and where he left off last August at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway: at the front of an IndyCar field.

Sato, who won the 104th running of the Indy 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway last Sunday, took the pole position for the second race of the Bommarito Automotive Group Race to MEGA Savings 250s at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway.

The reigning winner at the track took the pole position for this 200-lap race around the four-turn, 1.25-mile (2.012-kilometer) oval in Madison, Illinois by recording a top lap speed of 182.499 miles per hour (24.6577 seconds) behind the wheel of his #30 Honda on the second lap of his two-lap qualifying run.

Only the second lap of each driver’s two-lap qualifying run counted toward setting the starting lineup for the second race of this doubleheader. The first lap counted toward setting the starting lineup for the first.

This pole position is only Honda’s second of the season through nine races. The first came for the Indy 500. Andretti Herta Autosport’s Marco Andretti took the pole position for this race.

Set to start alongside Sato on the front row is Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden in second place behind the wheel of his #1 Chevrolet. Newgarden won the race at the track back in 2017 en route to winning his first championship.

Despite not taking the pole position, Chevrolet drivers took three of the top four positions in the starting lineup, as 2018 race winner Will Power of Team Penske is set to start in third place behind the wheel of his #12 Chevrolet and Arrow McLaren SP’s Pato O’Ward is set to start in fourth behind the wheel of his #5 Chevrolet.

Meyer Shank Racing’s Jack Harvey qualified in fifth place behind the wheel of his #60 Honda and is set to start alongside Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon in sixth behind the wheel of his #9 Honda.

Team Penske and Chip Ganassi Racing both placed three drivers in the top nine, with the former placing three in the top eight, as Simon Pagenaud qualified in eighth place behind the wheel of his #22 Chevrolet and Felix Rosenqvist qualified in ninth behind the wheel of his #10 Honda.

Andretti Harding Steinbrenner Racing’s Colton Herta rounded out the top 10 by qualifying in 10th place behind the wheel of his #88 Honda.
