Lewis Hamilton dominated the Belgian Grand Prix at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps for his fifth victory in the last six Formula 1 races.
Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton continued to distance himself from the rest of the field in the 2020 Formula 1 driver standings with a lights to flag victory in the Belgian Grand Prix at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.
Hamilton, who hadn’t won the 44-lap race at the 19-turn, 4.352-mile (7.004-kilometer) road course in Stavelot, Belgium since 2017, took the checkered flag by 8.448 seconds over teammate Valtteri Bottas in second place to secure his 89th career victory and move to within two wins of Michael Schumacher’s all-time record of 91.
Hamilton has now won five of the last six races, and no other driver has won more than one race through the first seven events of the year.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen finished in third place, marking the fifth time in the last six races to feature Hamilton, Bottas and Verstappen finishing on the podium. Verstappen had been riding a streak of four straight top two finishes before this race. At no point during today’s race were any of these three drivers running outside of their top three positions.
The top four drivers all finished where they started, as Renault’s Daniel Ricciardo tied his best result as a Renault driver with a fourth place finish, his third in 28 races since joining the team ahead of the 2019 season, and he did so after recording the race’s fastest lap. Renault’s Esteban Ocon finished in a season-high fifth, his best result as a Renault driver.
Red Bull’s Alexander Albon shot himself up to fourth place in the driver standings behind the sport’s regular podium finishers with a sixth place finish, his sixth consecutive top eight result. Only Hamilton and Verstappen have also recorded at least six straight top eight finishes.
Seventh place qualifier Carlos Sainz Jr. of McLaren did not start the race due to a mechanical issue. His teammate, Lando Norris, finished in seventh.
Rounding out the top 10 were AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly and Racing Point teammates Lance Stroll and Sergio Perez in eighth, ninth and 10th place, respectively.
Of the 19 drivers who started the race, 17 finished it, as Alfa Romeo Racing’s Antonio Giovinazzi and Williams’ George Russell were involved in an early crash that brought out a safety car. All 17 of the drivers who finished the race finished on the lead lap, which was not a huge surprise considering the fact that the track is the longest on the schedule.
