Bubba Wallace 2021 landing spots – Hendrick Motorsports

You’d be hard-pressed to find a NASCAR Cup Series driver — or even an Xfinity Series driver — who hasn’t been linked to the #48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet for next season.

More from NASCAR Cup Series

Seven-time champion Jimmie Johnson announced that the 2020 season would be his last just days after the 2019 season ended, and he has stood by that, despite the fact that the season ended up being drastically altered due to the coronavirus pandemic and the fact that he was even forced to miss a race for the first time after testing positive for COVID-19.

Ally Financial have already signed a contract extension to continue as the full-time sponsor of the #48 Chevrolet through the 2023 season, so Hendrick Motorsports, which already have their other three drivers under contract for 2021, are in quite an enviable position in which they can basically select who they believe is the best driver available to replace the future Hall of Famer.

One of those many, many drivers happens to be Bubba Wallace. According to Fox Sports’ Bob Pockrass, Wallace has actually been considered one of the leading candidates to replace Johnson.

Now Tyler Reddick is out of the mix as well, having confirmed that he is set to return to Richard Childress Racing next year.

Johnson’s seat is undoubtedly the most coveted seat among the open rides for next year, so to earn it above all of the other drivers who are in the running, Wallace will need to continue to outperform his equipment at Richard Petty Motorsports.
