NASCAR: Kurt Busch eyeing retirement after 2021?
Kurt Busch’s contract with Chip Ganassi Racing in the NASCAR Cup Series ends after the 2021 season, but a complete retirement from racing isn’t on his mind.
In 2021, Kurt Busch will be entering the final year of a multi-year deal with Chip Ganassi Racing in the NASCAR Cup Series.
In a recent interview with CBS, Busch mentioned that he plans on racing full-time next year in the Cup Series. He also mentioned that there is a 50/50 chance that next year will be his final year in the sport.
Here’s what he had to say.
"“I’ll give it 50-50. I’ve been at this game a long time. I’ve been out there 21 years and my wife is a great supporter of mine and she loves the racing but it’s been a bunch of years out on the road and out on the circuit and we’ll see what 2022 brings us when we get there.”"
In another interview with Beyond The Flag, Busch mentioned that the possibility of him retiring is only him not racing full-time in NASCAR after 2021.
“I don’t think I’ll ever retire from racing,” Busch said.

One thing that has Busch intrigued is the debut of the next generation car, which had been slated to hit the track next year but was pushed back to 2022 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“I have always wanted to race the next generation car,” he added.
The addition of more road courses also has Busch excited for what is next for NASCAR. If the opportunity presents itself, he would be open to running some races at the new road courses being added the schedule.
Even if Busch doesn’t race in the Cup Series after 2021, there are many other things he would like to do in racing.
“There’s bucket list races around the world I would love to do, like Le Mans, the Bathurst 1000, the Baja 1000,” he said, “There are a lot of fun things outside of NASCAR.”
There is still over a year before Busch will potentially be slated to make his final start in the NASCAR Cup Series as a full-time driver. He is focused on what is ahead and is acknowledges the fact that there is still a lot of work to do, including competing for a second Cup Series championship as the 2020 seasons winds down.
