Chase Briscoe has been tipped to replace Clint Bowyer behind the wheel of the #14 Ford at Stewart-Haas Racing for the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season.

Clint Bowyer confirmed two Thursdays ago that he will not be back behind the wheel of the #14 Ford for Stewart-Haas Racing in the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season for what would have been a fifth year with the team and that he will instead be moving to the Fox both for Cup Series races.

Chase Briscoe, who is in his second season competing full-time for Stewart-Haas Racing’s Xfinity Series team, has long been seen as a potential replacement for Bowyer at the four-car Ford team, even before Bowyer confirmed that he wouldn’t be back next year.

Stewart-Haas Racing had altered their driver lineup after four straight seasons entering the 2020 season, and Briscoe was seen as the go-to guy should that happen again given his success at NASCAR’s second highest level and given the fact that the team’s change from 2019 to 2020 involved the promotion of Xfinity Series driver Cole Custer.

Now multiple sources have indicated that the 25-year-old Mitchell, Indiana is set to be confirmed as the replacement for the 41-year-old Emporia, Kansas native as early as tomorrow.

Briscoe is in the midst of a career year in the Xfinity Series that has seen him win nine of the season’s first 30 races and lock up his first career berth in the Championship 4. No other driver has won more than five races this season. Briscoe has recorded 16 top five finishes and 20 top 10 finishes, and he leads the series in laps led with 987 and in average finish with a mark of 7.9.

Last season was his first season as a full-time driver in the series, and he finished in fifth place in the championship standings with one win at Iowa Speedway. He entered the 2020 season as one of the championship favorites, given the fact that the “Big 3” of Custer, Tyler Reddick and Christopher Bell were promoted to the Cup Series after last year, and he has exceeded the high expectations that many had for him.
