Formula 1: Lewis Hamilton slated to end massive 354-race streak
By Asher Fair
A Lewis Hamilton victory in Sunday’s Portuguese Grand Prix at Algarve International Circuit would end a 354-race run of Michael Schumacher atop the all-time Formula 1 wins list.
On Sunday, August 19, 2001, Michael Schumacher secured his fourth career Formula 1 world championship in the Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring. He did it by winning the race to tie fellow four-time champion Alain Prost atop the all-time wins list with his 51st career victory.
Since then, Schumacher has been no lower than the top driver on that list, and he opened up a huge 40-win gap over Prost in second place by the time he retired — despite taking a three-year hiatus and not winning a single race over the course of his three-year return.
Schumacher retired after the 2012 season, but his winning was done in 2006. He retired having won an all-time record 91 races and an all-time record seven championships.

But Lewis Hamilton, who has competed in every race since making his debut in the sport back in 2007, recently tied Schumacher atop the all-time wins list with his 91st career victory, and he did it in Schumacher’s home country of Germany at the Nurburgring, where Schumacher won five times, two Sundays ago in the Eifel Grand Prix.
This Sunday at Algarve International Circuit in the Portuguese Grand Prix, the 35-year-old Briton has a chance to break Schumacher’s all-time Formula 1 wins record.
A victory for Hamilton in this race would end a 354-race streak of Schumacher sitting atop the Formula 1 wins list.
That 354-race span accounts for more than one-third of the sport’s history, as 1,029 races have been contested since the sport was established back in 1950 with the British Grand Prix at Silverstone Circuit.
