Alexander Rossi’s four-year winning streak is the longest streak on the line in the 2020 IndyCar season finale on the streets of St. Petersburg.

Just seven drivers found victory lane in the 2019 IndyCar season, the lowest single-season total since the 2010 season featured only seven different winners and tied for the lowest single-season total since only six winners emerged in 2009.

One of those seven drivers, Colton Herta, was a rookie in 2019 and won for the first time in his career, securing victories at both Circuit of the Americas and at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

The other six, however, extended winning streaks of multiple years.

Takuma Sato’s victories and Barber Motorsports Park and World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway extended his winning streak to three seasons.

Simon Pagenaud’s victories at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (both the road course and the oval for the Indy 500) and on the streets of Toronto extended his winning streak to four seasons. Alexander Rossi’s victories on the streets of Long Beach and at Road America also extended his winning streak to four seasons.

Josef Newgarden’s victories on the streets of St. Petersburg and the streets of Belle Islle and at Texas Motor Speedway and Iowa Speedway extended his winning streak to five seasons.

Will Power’s victories at Pocono Raceway and Portland International Raceway extended his winning streak to 13 seasons. Scott Dixon’s victories on the streets of Belle Isle and at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course extended his winning streak to a series-high 15 seasons.

Six of those drivers have been victorious again in 2020, along with Felix Rosenqvist, who became a first-time winner when he won at Road America in July.

Dixon has won four races this season at Texas Motor Speedway, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course, Road America and World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway while Newgarden has won three at Iowa Speedway, World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.

Power has won two races at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course while Pagenaud won at Iowa Speedway, Sato won the Indy 500 and Herta won at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Rossi, however, has not yet won in 2020.

His four-year winning streak, which includes each of his first four seasons in the sport and is the longest streak to start a career among all active full-time drivers, is the longest active streak which has not yet been extended in 2020, and it is at risk of ending if he does not win the season finale on the streets of St. Petersburg.

In four starts at the 14-turn, 1.8-mile (2.897-kilometer) temporary street circuit on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida, Rossi has recorded an average finish of 7.75 with no finishes outside of the top 12 and two top five results, including a third place finish in 2018.

Rossi is currently riding a four-race streak of podium finishes after recording just one podium finish in the season’s first nine races, a third place finish at Road America. He finished in both third and second place in both doubleheaders at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course leading up to the season finale.
