IndyCar: Felix Rosenqvist to drive for Arrow McLaren SP in 2021
By Asher Fair
Felix Rosenqvist is set to leave Chip Ganassi Racing after the 2020 IndyCar season and compete for Arrow McLaren SP in 2021.
It was confirmed on Thursday that the 2020 IndyCar season, Felix Rosenqvist’s second season with Chip Ganassi Racing behind the wheel of the #10 Honda, was his final season of competition for the team.
The 28-year-old Swede is set to join Arrow McLaren SP next year as the replacement for Oliver Askew behind the wheel of the #7 Chevrolet. The team announced earlier this month Askew would not be back with the team next year after just one season.
Rosenqvist’s confirmation, a move that had been reported for several weeks, comes just after the team confirmed that Pato O’Ward would be back behind the wheel of the #5 Chevrolet for a second season next year.
Here is what Rosenqvist had to say about this opportunity in a team release.
"“I can’t wait to take the next step in my career and join Arrow McLaren SP. The team has shown itself to be a consistent challenger this year and I’m looking forward to working with Pato to help take it forward.”"
Here is what Arrow McLaren SP co-owner Sam Schmidt had to add.
"“We’ve been watching Felix since he came over to Indy Lights in 2016 and have been constantly impressed by his performance over the past two years. We think that he and Pato complement each other well and together we believe they will help us on our journey forward as a team.”"
Here is what McLaren CEO Zak Brown had to add.
"“It’s not very often that you get the opportunity to combine two young, established talents like Pato and Felix. I think this pairing gives us a strong driver lineup and I’m excited to see what they can do together on and off the track.”"

Through 31 career starts, Rosenqvist has one victory, with that victory coming at Road America in July after he ironically passed his soon-to-be teammate with just two laps remaining.
He has two other podium finishes throughout his two seasons with Chip Ganassi Racing, with both coming last year. He finished in second place at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in a rare road course photo finish with teammate Scott Dixon, and he finished runner-up to Team Penske’s Will Power at Portland International Raceway.
Rosenqvist finished in sixth place in the championship standings last year and won the Rookie of the Year title, and he finished in 11th in 2020.
