Valtteri Bottas took the pole position for the 13th race of the 2020 Formula 1 season, the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari.

Mercedes kept their perfect pole position streak intact in the 2020 Formula 1 season with Valtteri Bottas’s fourth pole position of the year at Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, the 13th race on the 17-race calendar.

Bottas beat teammate Lewis Hamilton to secure the pole position and deliver the Silver Arrows their 14th consecutive top spot in qualifying and their 10th front row lockout in the last 11 races. Hamilton’s second place start marks his 12th consecutive front row start.

Bottas took the pole position for this 63-lap race around the 21-turn, 3.05-mile (4.908-kilometer) road course in Imola, Emilia-Romagna, Italy by recording a top lap time of 73.609 seconds (149.167 miles per hour) in the third and final round of qualifying for this race.

He beat Hamilton by just 0.097 seconds (0.197 miles per hour) to secure the top spot. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen qualified in third place, giving the trio of Bottas, Hamilton and Verstappen yet another top three sweep.

AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly qualified in an impressive fourth place and is set to start alongside Verstappen on the second row. Set to share the third row are Renault’s Daniel Ricciardo in fifth and Red Bull’s Alexander Albon in sixth. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc qualified in seventh and AlphaTauri’s Daniil Kvyat rounded out a great qualifying session for the team by qualifying in eighth.

McLaren teammates Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz Jr. were the slowest two drivers who advanced to the third and final round of qualifying. They are set to start in ninth and 10th place, respectively.

Eliminated after the second round of qualifying were Racing Point’s Sergio Perez, Renault’s Esteban Ocon, Williams’ George Russell, Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel and Racing Point’s Lance Stroll. They qualified in 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th place, respectively.

Eliminated after the first round of qualifying were Haas teammates Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen, Alfa Romeo’s Kimi Raikkonen, Williams rookie Nicholas Latifi and Alfa Romeo’s Antonio Giovinazzi. They qualified in 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th place, respectively.

Russell outqualifying Latifi makes him a perfect 34 for 34 in terms of outqualifiying his teammates to start his career.
