Possible 2021 AlphaTauri drivers: #3 – Alexander Albon

If Red Bull don’t promote Yuki Tsunoda to Formula 2 to AlphaTauri, there is a chance that, once again, the sister team will be comprised of 100% ex-Red Bull drivers, and that is the case even if they do end up moving on from Daniil Kvyat — or in the off chance that they promote him.

We already know that Pierre Gasly is set to return following his shocking Italian Grand Prix victory, and Alexander Albon, who replaced him at Red Bull 12 races into the 2019 season, could very well end up being his teammate.

Albon has struggled in his first full season driving at Red Bull alongside Max Verstappen — and yes, we must include “alongside Max Verstappen” because that is a very important detail to consider for every Red Bull teammate.

But even throwing that detail out the window, Albon has not impressed. While the top three drivers all year have been Mercedes teammates Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas along with Verstappen, Albon is unfortunately not even close to contending for fourth place in the driver standings at the moment, despite driving for the second fastest team on the grid.

That said, Albon did have two potential podium finishes, possibly even a win, taken away from him due to incidental contact from Hamilton, and he did manage to secure Red Bull’s first podium finish outside of Verstappen in more than two years with his third place finish in the Tuscan Grand Prix at Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello earlier this season.

Red Bull have spoken highly of Albon and his potential, so if he were to be cut, it is very possible that they won’t completely release him from the organization. Keep in mind, they also spoke highly of Pierre Gasly before unexpectedly demoting him last year, and even when they did, they didn’t completely get rid of him despite his struggles.

Which one of these three drivers will compete alongside Pierre Gasly in the 2021 Formula 1 season? Will Daniil Kvyat retain his seat? Will Yuki Tsunoda be promoted from Formula 2 as his replacement, or will Alexander Albon be demoted from Red Bull back to the sister team?
