Possible 2021 John Hunter Nemechek landing spots: #5 – JTG Daugherty Racing

Amid mounting speculation that Ryan Preece would not return to JTG Daugherty Racing for a third year in the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season given his struggles throughout the 2020 season, he put together an impressive end to the season and has been now reported as being “expected to return”.

However, nothing is signed for next year, and the #37 Chevrolet remains arguably the top open seat in the Cup Series with him not having yet signed to return.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. is under contract to return for a second year behind the wheel of the #47 Chevrolet.

While Nemechek finished ahead of Preece in the championship standings in his rookie season, JTG Daugherty Racing have demonstrated that they have the speed to produce solid results on a regular basis when things go their way, as evidenced by Chris Buescher’s 16 straight top 18 finishes in 2019 and Ricky Stenhouse Jr.’s two top four finishes on 1.5-mile ovals in 2020. JTG Daugherty Racing would be a slight upgrade from Front Row Motorsports.
