NASCAR changes Bristol dirt schedule again due to rain
By Asher Fair
NASCAR has postponed today’s two dirt races, a Cup Series event and a Truck Series event, at Bristol Motor Speedway as a result of the rain.
There will be no NASCAR dirt races this afternoon or evening.
As a result of heavy rain in the area and safety concerns, with Sullivan County, Tennessee under a flood warning, NASCAR has made the early decision to postpone both of today’s dirt races at Bristol Motor Speedway.
The Cup Series had been scheduled to run its first dirt race since September 1970 this afternoon around the four-turn, 0.533-mile (0.858-kilometer) high-banked oval in Bristol.
But this race, the 250-lap Food City Dirt Race, has been postponed until tomorrow afternoon.

The Truck Series had been scheduled to run yesterday, but that 150-lap race, the Pinty’s Dirt Race, was postponed until this evening. However, now that race has been postponed until tomorrow afternoon as well.
Once again, the Truck Series race is set to precede the Cup Series race as originally planned, which would not have been the case had the two races been run today. Eight drivers plan to compete in both events.
NASCAR also canceled the four heat races for each of these two events after just one lap of the first Truck Series heat race was run on Saturday evening.
Due to the rain, the mud quickly covered the windshields of the trucks, so instead, the starting lineup formula was used to determine the starting lineups for both main events.
Kyle Busch Motorsports’ John Hunter Nemechek is set to start the Truck Series race from the pole position while Hendrick Motorsports’ Kyle Larson is set to start the Cup Series race from the pole position, although he will be sent to the rear of the field after an engine change in his #5 Chevrolet, making Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin the effective polesitter behind the wheel of his #11 Toyota.
Tune in to Fox Sports 1 at 12:00 p.m. ET tomorrow afternoon for the live broadcast of the Pinty’s Dirt Race from Bristol Motor Speedway, and switch over the Fox at 4:00 p.m. ET for the live broadcast of the Food City Dirt Race from the same venue, weather permitting.
