Rare off weekend set for Formula 1, NASCAR
By Asher Fair
There will be no Formula 1 or NASCAR action this weekend with Easter on Sunday, a rare occurrence throughout the 2021 calendar.
Coming off of an exciting Formula 1 season opener at Bahrain International Circuit and an exciting NASCAR Cup Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway, the first dirt race in over five decades, there is no action scheduled for either series this weekend with Easter set to take place on Sunday, April 4.
This is one of very few off weekends shared by both America’s most popular racing series and the world’s most popular racing series this year. In fact, it is one of only two that they share from the start of the Cup Series season in February until the Formula 1 season finale in December.
This weekend marks the final time that both series have no races scheduled until the weekend of Saturday, July 24 and Sunday, July 25.
After that, there are no more off weekends scheduled to be shared by both series until after the Cup Series season ends.

The Cup Series season is scheduled to end at Phoenix Raceway on Sunday, November 7, the same day the Brazilian Grand Prix, the 20th of 23 races on the 2021 Formula 1 schedule, is scheduled to be held at Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace.
NASCAR’s first off weekend of the offseason is also slated to be an off weekend for Formula 1 between the Brazilian Grand Prix and the Australian Grand Prix. The latter is scheduled to take place at Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit on Sunday, November 21 after it was postponed from Sunday, March 21 as a result of coronavirus pandemic-related restrictions in Melbourne, Australia.
After this weekend, Cup Series action is scheduled to resume on Saturday, April 10 with the Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 500 at Martinsville Speedway. This race is set to be broadcast live on Fox Sports 1 beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET.
