IndyCar: 2021 St. Petersburg qualifying – Full starting lineup
By Asher Fair
The starting lineup for the 2021 IndyCar season’s second race, the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, is set following an intense qualifying session.
After an exciting opening weekend of the 2021 IndyCar season at Barber Motorsports Park last weekend, the parity throughout America’s top open-wheel racing series continued into the qualifying session for round number two on the streets of St. Petersburg Florida.
An intense qualifying session for the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg saw Andretti Autosport’s Colton Herta take the pole position for tomorrow afternoon’s race.
Herta took the pole position for this 100-lap race around the 14-turn, 1.8-mile (2.897-kilometer) temporary street circuit on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida by recording a top lap time of 60.3210 seconds (107.425 miles per hour) behind the wheel of his #26 Honda in the Firestone Fast Six qualifying session.

Chevrolet occupied the remainder of the Firestone Fast Six, with Team Penske teammates Josef Newgarden and Simon Pagenaud qualifying in third and fourth place behind the wheels of their #2 Chevrolet and #22 Chevrolet, respectively, ahead of Arrow McLaren SP’s Pato O’Ward in fifth behind the wheel of his #5 Chevrolet and A.J. Foyt Enterprises’ Sebastien Bourdais in sixth behind the wheel of his #14 Chevrolet.
Season-opening winner Alex Palou of Chip Ganassi Racing qualified in 10th place behind the wheel of his #10 Honda.
Eight-time St. Petersburg polesitter Will Power of Team Penske had a very disappointing qualifying session, qualifying back in 20th place behind the wheel of his #12 Chevrolet and capping off his run with a spin coming to the timing and scoring line for the final time.
