The entry list for the 105th running of the Indy 500 later this month could see 36 cars, with one more looking likely to be added.

Andretti Autosport recently confirmed the 35th entry for the 105th running of the Indy 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, announcing that Stefan Wilson is set to return to the team for the first time since 2018 and pilot the #25 Honda.

Wilson became the 34th driver confirmed for this year’s running of the 200-lap race around the four-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) oval in Speedway, Indiana. One entry, the #52 Honda of Dale Coyne Racing with Rick Ware Racing, remains without a confirmed driver.

With practice for the race scheduled to begin one week from today, it looks as though we could still see a 36th car on the entry list, which would make this year’s entry list tied for the largest since the 95th running of the race in 2011. We last saw 36 entries in 2019.

Top Gun Racing recently made their on-track debut at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway.

More from IndyCar

The team had planned to make their IndyCar debut in last year’s running of the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing”, but with fans prohibited from attending the race, they could not justify fielding an entry from a sponsorship standpoint.

While it is without official confirmation so far, they have stated their plans to make their series debut in this year’s Indy 500 instead, and with qualifying under two weeks away, those plans still appear to be intact. Their first ever IndyCar test featured RC Enerson, who has made four career IndyCar starts, behind the wheel of the #75 Chevrolet. Should they attempt to qualify for the race, it would be Enerson behind the wheel.

According to RACER, both Chevrolet and Honda have confirmed 18 engine leases for this year’s Indy 500. Excluding Top Gun Racing, Chevrolet would only be at 17.

A 36th entry would mean that three drivers will be on the outside looking in after qualifying, with the Indy 500 field limited to the traditional field of 33 competitors.
