Following Friday evening’s random draw, the qualifying order for Saturday’s Indy 500 qualifying session is set for the 35 IndyCar drivers in the field.

A total of 35 IndyCar drivers are set to attempt to qualify for 33 spots in the starting lineup for the 105th running of the Indy 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and that pursuit is officially set to begin tomorrow afternoon in the opening qualifying session of the weekend.

After Friday’s Fast Friday practice session, a random draw was held to determine the order in which these 35 drivers are slated to make their initial four-lap qualifying runs around the four-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) oval in Speedway, Indiana on Saturday afternoon.

Additional attempts may be made without waiving previous speeds, but drivers can also opt to go to the front of the line via the fast lane, which would waive previous speeds.

The top nine drivers from this session advance to Sunday’s Fast Nine Shootout to set the front three rows of the grid while the slowest five move on to Sunday’s Bump Day session to set the 11th and final row of the grid and determine which two drivers won’t make the show. The 10th through 30th place drivers in tomorrow’s session lock into their starting positions.

Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon, who topped the speed charts in Friday’s practice session with a top lap speed of 233.302 miles per hour (38.5766 seconds) behind the wheel of his #9 Honda, drew the top spot in the qualifying order.
