The qualifying order for Sunday’s Fast Nine Shootout qualifying session for the 105th running of the Indy 500 is set following Saturday’s session.

Saturday’s qualifying session for the 105th running of the Indy 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway was a dramatic one, but not so much at the sharp end of the field.

After each driver made an initial four-lap qualifying attempt around the four-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) oval in Speedway, Indiana, the only change inside the top nine was the fact that Ed Carpenter Racing’s Rinus VeeKay improved his average speed from 12th fastest to fifth fastest, bumping Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi from the top nine.

The only other notable occurrence among those top nine drivers was the fact that Chip Ganassi Racing’s Alex Palou attempted to make a second qualifying run but crashed while doing so. However, he kept his previous speed, which ranked seventh.

As a result, the nine drivers who are set to compete in tomorrow afternoon’s Fast Nine Shootout have been determined. Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon, who started off Saturday’s session, posted the quickest four-lap average speed of 231.828 miles per hour behind the wheel of his #9 Honda.

The first driver to make a qualifying attempt this weekend is also set to be the last, as he is slated to be the ninth and final driver to make his four-lap qualifying run in the shootout for the pole position. The finishing order of the top nine from Saturday’s session was inverted to determine the order for this shootout.

Leading off this session is set to be one of Dixon’s other teammates, Marcus Ericsson. Ericsson posted the ninth fastest four-lap average speed on Saturday.
