IndyCar: At least one injured driver set to return at Mid-Ohio
By Asher Fair
Felix Rosenqvist is set to return to IndyCar for this Sunday afternoon’s race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, and it is expected that Rinus VeeKay will be back as well.
Two full-time drivers missed the most recent IndyCar race at Road America two Sundays ago as a result of injuries they had suffered in separate accidents, one on-track and one off-track.
Arrow McLaren SP’s Felix Rosenqvist was involved in a nasty accident in the first race at Belle Isle Street Circuit that sidelined him for the second race of the weekend doubleheader, and the team called upon Oliver Askew to replace him behind the wheel of the #7 Chevrolet for this race.
After Rosenqvist was not cleared to compete in the following race at Road America, former Formula 1 driver Kevin Magnussen was called upon as his replacement for this event.
Askew had already been called upon by another team for another substitute role.

Ed Carpenter Racing’s Rinus VeeKay was involved in a biking accident and broke his left clavicle ahead of the race at Road America, and he was also not medically cleared to compete in this race. Like Rosenqvist was in the second race at Belle Isle Street Circuit, he was replaced by Oliver Askew for this event.
Rosenqvist has now been medically cleared to return to action this weekend for the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Arrow McLaren SP confirmed on Tuesday.
Rosenqvist has had a disappointing first season with his new team, as he sits in 24th place in the championship standings with a top finish of 12th on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida. Even before missing the race at Road America, he sat in 24th, trailing four drivers who do not compete full-time.
Meanwhile, Ed Carpenter Racing have not yet confirmed whether or not VeeKay will be back behind the wheel of the #21 Chevrolet this weekend for this 80-lap race around the 13-turn, 2.258-mile (3.634-kilometer) natural terrain road course in Lexington, Ohio, but it is expected that he will be cleared to return as well.
VeeKay sits in sixth place in the championship standings, thanks in part to his first career victory at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course in mid-May. He sat in a fifth place tie before missing the race at Road America.
The Honda Indy 200 is set to be broadcast live on NBC from Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course beginning at 12:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, July 4.
