Formula 1 championship betting odds got an interesting update
By Asher Fair
After Nikita Mazepin, Mick Schumacher and Nicholas Latifi were listed just behind Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, the 2021 Formula 1 world championship betting odds have been updated.
The 2021 Formula 1 world championship battle is shaping up pretty much exactly like most of us had anticipated.
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton are the two drivers battling to win the title, and they have occupied the top two positions in the driver standings after each of the season’s first nine races.
Of these nine races, the only race that one of those two drivers didn’t win was the Azerbaijan Grand Prix at Baku City Circuit, which was won by Red Bull’s Sergio Perez as a result of late issues experienced by both contenders.

Verstappen has won five races so far this season while Hamilton has won three, and the 23-year-old Dutchman has a 32-point lead over the seven-time world champion with 14 races remaining on the schedule.
So it stands to reason that Verstappen is now listed as WynnBET’s -525 favorite to win his first world championship this season, and it stands to reason that Hamilton is listed as the second favorite at +300 (as opposed to somewhere above +525, given the fact that it has become a two-man race).

However, before a recent update, the odds behind Verstappen and Hamilton were quite interesting — almost like they were designed to poke fun at the fact that this is truly a two-man race.
Ranking third behind Verstappen and Hamilton were three of the four drivers who have yet to score a point this season: the Haas rookie duo of Nikita Mazepin and Mick Schumacher and Williams’ Nicholas Latifi. Among them, the top finish so far this season is Schumacher’s 13th finish in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
They were each listed at +425.
If you do the math, those odds implied that there is a 57.14% chance that one of those four drivers wins the 2021 world championship.
We seriously hope you didn’t put money on that.
But now that has changed.
Every driver other than Verstappen and Hamilton, save for one, is now listed at +10000 (100:1) to win this year’s world championship.
So technically Mazepin, Schumacher and Latifi are still ranked third. But it’s a lot different looking third than it was, and they are tied with 14 other drivers.
The only other driver who isn’t listed at +10000 is interestingly Valtteri Bottas, Hamilton’s teammate who sits in fifth place in the driver standings. He is listed at +20000 (200:1).
Even with the odds update, we still don’t recommend throwing money away on any of the other 18 competitors, however — not even Bottas.
The next race on the schedule is the British Grand Prix, which is set to be broadcast live on ESPN from Silverstone Circuit beginning at 10:00 a.m. ET this Sunday, July 18. Silverstone Circuit hosted two races last season, and Hamilton and Verstappen each won one.
