The 2014 NASCAR season is literally right around the corner. By this time next weekend, cars will be at Daytona, drivers will be in their fire suits and Media Day will be long over. If you are like the missions of other fans just chomping at the bit for racing to get started, the anticipation of these last few days of the off season might be too much to handle. Don’t worry, I’m here to help! Below are just a few ideas on how you can spend your last weekend without racing.

Hit the gym: Like many NASCAR fans, once the race season starts, your No.1 priority on the weekends is to take in as much of the burning rubber and gas as possible, whether that happens in person or on TV. Take this last weekend to hit the gym for a few hours. Maybe walk on the treadmill, swim a few laps, lift some weights or maybe shoot some hoops and make sure you wear your favorite drivers t-shirt. Just think of all of the extra junk food you can eat while watching the Daytona 500 in a few weeks! Plus, the gym is a great place to socialize and you may just find yourself a new NASCAR buddy!

Clean out your DVR: If you are like me, you probably have a list of TV shows and movies saved up on your DVR from the off-season that you never got around to watching. DELETE THEM! Face it, those were just there to make your DVR feel like it was still worth something during the off-season. Now that NASCAR is right around the corner, it’s time to break it off with those old westerns and guilty-pleasure reality TV and make room for what is really important. It’s OK, we all know the only reason you got that DVR was to watch Rutledge Wood on NASCAR RaceDay.

STUDY! You heard me right, study! NASCAR made so many changes in the few weeks that it is hard to keep track of what is new and what is old. Take these last few days to study up on the new qualifying procedures and changes to the Chase format. Even the way penalties will be handed down changed so now is the time to look it all over and give it a good read. You may also want to look at the list of drivers for NASCAR top three series. Many famous faces are changing numbers and there is a long list of new faces emerging. Take a few minutes to get familiar with the names that way, when you are yelling at your TV screen this season, you will know actually have a name to go with the number on the door.

Binge Watch: Now is your last chance to finish that TV show you have been watching on Netflix because once season starts, your Netflix account will be all but forgotten. Sad, right? Hunker down in your favorite chair, preferably the one you will be watching the races from, and finish that season of Desperate Housewives…er… Dexter! Plus, this gives you the perfect opportunity to make sure everything is in place and comfortable when the green flag flies.

Plan you Daytona 500 PARTAY! NASCAR is one of those weird sports where the biggest even of the year is the one that kicks off the season! The Daytona 500 is NASCAR’s Super Bowl so why not have a Daytona 500 party? Take this last off weekend to plan the best 500 party you can think of. Just imagine having a bunch of your closest racing buddies there to enjoy the race with you…pretty good visual, right? Not into planning a party? Scope out the area! There might just be a Daytona 500 party happening somewhere!

So, there you have it. Just a few ways to enjoy your final off week for the foreseeable future. Got another great idea? Comment below!
