NASCAR: Who’s Hot And Who’s Not Heading Into Indianapolis

NOT – Jimmie Johnson
Jimmie Johnson is locked into the chase this season thanks to his three victories in 2014. Johnson could finish in last place in each of the final seven races before the chase and it essentially would not matter. It is fortunate for Johnson and the No. 48 team that their chase fate is secured seeing as how they have finished the last two races in 42nd place. Now in all fairness both of those horrible finishes were through no fault of Johnson or his team. That not withstanding; this is absolutely something that cannot happen in the chase. If Johnson were to suffer consecutive finishes like this in the chase it would most likely end his run at a seventh championship for the time being. Although his spot in the chase is secured, his seed isn’t. Heading into Indianapolis this weekend Johnson is the second seed in the chase. If Johnson continues to run poorly and other drivers with wins find their way to Victory Lane over the final seven races; Johnson could fall even further in regards to his seeding for the chase. That being said Johnson is probably going to win this weekend.
