Qualifying for the Daytona 500 can be complicated. There are 30 positions determined during Thursday’s Budweiser Duels, six positions determined during qualifying and seven more based on 2014 owner points. With that being said Daytona 500 can be very emotional.

Qualifying for the Daytona 500 can always has it’s feel good stories and heartbreak stories. For example Johnny Sauter’s qualify time on Sunday has put him 11th fastest on the grid and that has virtually guaranteed the truck series veteran his third career Daytona 500 start in 2015 surprising many in the NASCAR world. On a restrictor plate track you can have a heart break story. Last season at Talladega Superspeedway in October of 2014 Ricky Stenhouse Jr and Justin Allgaier, two regulars on the Sprint Cup Series tour, failed to qualify for the event stunning the NASCAR world.

There are five drivers who need to avoid having the same fate Stenhouse and Allgaier had in 2014, heading into the 2015 Daytona 500. Five drivers who need a good run in their Budweiser Duels on Thursday or they will go home and not make the Daytona 500. Five drivers who some people in the sport expected to be in a much better spot to make the Daytona 500 entering Thursday’s Duel races than they currently are.
