No. 1 – Mark Martin

Martin finished his NASCAR career with 40 wins which puts him 17th on the all-time win’s list. Despite those 40 wins Martin was never able to win a Sprint Cup championship, but man oh man was he close. Martin finished second the point standings on five different occasions in his career (1990, 1994, 1998, 2002 and 2009). What’s more impressive is that his first close call to winning a title and his last were almost 20 years apart.

Like Kyle Busch, Martin was also successful in the Xfinity and Truck Series having won an additional 56 races between the two. Martin has also won the Southern 500 (twice), Coca-Cola 600, The Winston (twice), Nextel All-Star Challenge (twice) and the Bud Shootout in his career. The fact that so many events have been renamed so many times during his career shows just how long Martin was not only around but also successful.
