Checkered Countdown: Top-Five Bristol Finishes
No. 5 Jeff Gordon bumps Rusty Wallace out-of-the-way and wins (2002).
With 20 laps to go in the 2002 Sharpie 500 Rusty Wallace was leading with Jeff Gordon running second. Gordon’s last win had been 31 races earlier and this made him even more determined to pass Wallace and win. Everything happened in the last five laps: Wallace did not get a good run out of the corner and Gordon closed rapidly the gap between him and the leader and attempted a move on the inside. When Wallace came down to block he bumped him and moved by to win for the first time in that season.
