RFR seemed to be on the upswing after Texas. For the first time in 2015 all three RFR drivers advanced past the opening round of qualifying. Then in the race last weekend, all three of them finished inside of the top-20 for the first time this season.

That momentum was sucked out of RFR when they hit the track for qualifying on Friday. Once again all three of them failed to advance out of the first round of qualifying. The best one in the bunch was Ricky Stenhouse Jr. who qualified 25th. Trevor Bayne will start in 31st on Sunday and Biffle will start in 33rd after he spun out in qualifying.

RFR didn’t make it through Saturday practice without incident either. Stenhouse Jr. tagged the back of Carl Edwards in practice and the result was damage to the front of his No. 17 machine. Luckily for Stenhouse the damage was only cosmetic. The bad start to the weekend for RFR can be erased with strong runs on Sunday but it looks as though it might take a lot for that to happen.
