NASCAR: Five Bold Predictions For The Rest Of The Season
Matthew O – USA Today
Kyle Busch will win a race but he will not make the chase.
Kyle Busch is in a tough spot right now with only 11 races left before the chase. After finishing 43rd in Michigan a couple of weeks ago Busch finds himself in a spot where he needs to average a 13th-place finish over the next 11 races to potentially move into the top-30 in points. The second part of that equation for him making the chase is that he will need to win a race.
Busch will win a race in 2015, in fact he will probably win a couple of races. However, he isn’t going to be able to overcome his current point deficit and find hi was into the chase.
30th place in the standings is currently being held by Justin Allgaier. Just ahead of Allgaier are guys like David Gilliland, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Trevor Bayne and Tony Stewart. The idea of Busch averaging a 13th-place finish and making the chase is also based on Allgaier and company continuing to average what they have finished in over the first 15 races. With the exception of Gilliland the others have been having some better finishes as of late and those finishes will only make it harder for Busch.
It would be an amazing story for Busch to make the chase and contend for a title in 2015 but I just don’t see it happening. That being said, his fans should expect to see him win a few times.
