In January, Jeff Gordon announced that he would be retiring at the end of 2015. Throughout his storied career, which consists of four championships and 92 wins, he’s only had three seasons where he never won a race (1993, 2008, 2010) and through 29 races this season, he doesn’t have a win either but is, oddly enough, in the mix for the championship after advancing to the second round of the Chase.

His up and down season has consisted of many disappointing race finishes. He’s led at least 20 laps at Daytona, Martinsville, Talladega and Chicagoland, but in all of those races, there was some issue, whether it was a penalty or a bad pit stop that has kept him from getting to Victory Lane.

However, that hasn’t stopped him from from making the most of his final season. It seems as if his motto has been “just enough.” He did just enough to get into the Chase, he did just enough to get to the second round and he will do just enough to make it to the Championship 4 to compete for a championship in his final race.
