The Big One

When asked why fans get so revved up for Talladega, the answer given by many is that they want to see the big wreck.

Really?

Do fans really go to or watch races just to see who wrecks? Yes they most certainly do, some of them. You know the type – the ones who’s dominoes don’t have all the dots to begin with.

Fear of getting in the big wreck that restrictor-plate racing inherently produces, is why drivers are less and less likely to risk being involved in it. They will either adopt a “go to the front and stay there” strategy, or just the opposite – “go to the back and ride around.” The others will form a single-file line after about 10 laps and will stay there until there’s about three laps to go.

Driving to stay out of trouble and single-file racing will make this race a dud. You watch. It will happen.
