With the NASCAR season finally here thanks to Saturday’s season opening Sprint Unlimited event, several BTF staff as well as fans were asked what their favorite moment was from previous installments of the pre-season opener.

With the inaugural event of the Busch Clash/Bud Shootout/Budweiser Shootout/Sprint Unlimited at Daytona first arriving in 1979, the event has seen several thrilling moments throughout the years, from Ricky Rudd’s wild flip in 1984 to Kyle Busch’s phenomenal drive in 2012. It’s not the season’s biggest event, or even the season’s defining event. But it still gives us our pre-season fix of great racing after several weeks without it.

For this week’s #ThrowbackThursday, several BTF writers as well as fans (and even a young up-and-coming driver) were asked what their favorite moment from the event’s previous installments were. This is a collection of what they came up with.
