NASCAR: Five Drivers Most Likely To Win At Phoenix
By Cole Mentzel
Contender No. 3: Denny Hamlin
Stats at Phoenix:
- Wins: 1
- Top-5’s: 9
- Top-10’s: 11
- Laps Led: 441
Denny Hamlin may not be the most dominant driver to ever race at Phoenix, but it’s his consistency that’s pushed him to his success there through the years.
Hamlin won his lone race at PIR back in 2012, after starting 13th and leading 61 laps. He has finished outside of the top-20 in only four of his 21 races at the track and has been able to put together decent stretches of top-10 finishes, always looking solid.
Hamlin began the year with a bang, winning the Sprint Unlimited and the Daytona 500. However, he has struggled recently at Atlanta and Las Vegas with various issues arising in each race, such as failed strategies.
Hamlin will be a competitor this weekend at PIR simply because of the momentum he has from racing at short tracks. Besides a win at Martinsville, he started off the 2015 season with multiple finishes outside of the top-20. Once the Chase started, his luck changed, finishing with three top-10’s. This Sunday is set up for him to have another good weekend in the desert.
