From open wheels to motorcycles to sports cars, everyone has taken their shot at the twists and turns of the road course at Indianapolis. The Rolex Sports Car Series brought the prototypes and grand touring cars to the Brickyard in 2012, and would remain there after IMSA unification through 2014. As part of the “Super Weekend at the Brickyard”, the sports cars added a new dimension to racing at IMS.

The inaugural edition of the Brickyard Grand Prix would be highlighted by the “punt heard round the speedway”, as Juan Pablo Montoya in the #02 car for Chip Ganassi Racing spun out the #9 car for Starworks Motorsport, a team that was in contention for the Grand-Am title. Needless to say, the response from team owner Peter Baron to Ganassi and his all-stars was none too kind.

While IMSA, the successor to Grand-Am, no longer races at Indianapolis, those three years showcased some great racing for the sports cars in Indy.
