Contender No. 2: Jimmie Johnson

Stats at Charlotte:

  • Wins: 7
  • Top-5’s: 13
  • Top-10’s: 17
  • Laps Led: 1,735

Spoiler alert: you’re about to read more about how Jimmie Johnson has dominated at another track in the NASCAR circuit.

Johnson, who’s arguably the best 1.5-mile driver in NASCAR today, has won at Charlotte seven different times, the most in the history of the sport. He also has four Coca-Cola 600 wins, which is the best among all active drivers.

Also among active drivers, he’s recorded the most top-5’s and is tied with Matt Kenseth for the most top-10’s. Johnson owns the record for winning from the worst starting position (37th) and he’s captured five poles at the track.

Perhaps some of his most amazing stats come in the form of five wins in six races (four straight from 2004-2005) and the fact that he’s led laps in 23 out of 29 starts, including 334 of 400 in 2004.

There’s just no way you can count out a driver with this much success when he’s racing at one of his best tracks. Last season didn’t go so well for him there as he finished 40th and 39th, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be back. Be on the lookout for the six-time champ to work his magic at Charlotte again this weekend.
