Like the time you forgot your significant others birthday, NASCAR has quite a big hole they need to dig out of after the lackluster results of the Coca-Cola 600.

Not only was last week’s All-Star format confusing and hard to watch for fans, it was one of the least memorable races of the entire season. Unfortunately for NASCAR, the Coca-Cola 600 was much the same and it might be time for NASCAR to make major changes once again.

Not only was Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600 a snooze fest from beginning to end, especially since Martin Truex Jr. led all but 8 laps and pulled away from the field every chance he got, fans had to sit there and watch it lap after lap for a grueling 600 miles. Sure, older fans might have enjoyed seeing the kind of dominant performance that was the norm back in the 70’s and 80’s, but for younger fans, it was just monotonous.

While the 600-mile race has been a tradition for quite some time now, some traditions unfortunately die out due to uselessness or decline in interest and that’s the problem that NASCAR is facing right now with the Coca-Cola 600. Even worse, NASCAR must now choose between a younger audience that wants excitement and intensity, and an older group of NASCAR fans that value tradition more than anything.

With that in mind, NASCAR shortening the race or even changing its location shouldn’t be completely out of the question. In fact, NASCAR has made changes to the Sprint Cup Schedule for years now due to a variety of reasons and their recent flop during the Coca-Cola 600 is more than enough of a reason to start to make more changes to the schedule.
