NASCAR: Five Drivers Most Likely To Win At Pocono
By Cole Mentzel
The Favorite: Denny Hamlin
Stats at Pocono:
- Wins: 4
- Top-5’s: 9
- Top-10’s: 13
- Laps Led: 669
Pocono has always been special for Denny Hamlin. He earned the first two Cup Series wins of his career there back in 2006 when he swept the track in wins and poles, leading 83 laps in the June race and 151 in July.
That wasn’t just a fluke either. He won back-to-back races again spanning from 2009 to 2010, leading 91 laps and 88 laps respectively. Beginning in 2009, Hamlin would go on a stretch of six straight Pocono races where he led double-digit laps.
He’s led the second most laps among average drivers, trailing only Jimmie Johnson, and his average finish of 12.3 is fourth-best.
Since winning the Daytona 500 this year, Hamlin has had a few minor issues. He’s finished 20th or worst four different times and he’s the lowest-ranked Joe Gibbs Racing driver, sitting in 11th in the overall driver standings.
However, he always seems to race well at Pocono, which is one of his best tracks. Expect more of that this Sunday.
Denny Hamlin is your favorite heading into the weekend.
