Contender No. 1: Martin Truex Jr.

Stats at Pocono:

  • Wins: 1
  • Top-5’s: 3
  • Top-10’s: 7
  • Laps Led: 114

Martin Truex Jr. broke through for just the third win of his career last year at Pocono. After leading 97 laps, he earned a Chase-clinching victory, serving as one of the best drivers in the field leading up to the race.

The narrative is almost the same this season. These past few weekends, he led a ton of laps, leading up to his absolutely dominant victory last weekend at Charlotte. He seems to be hitting his stride, which is great news heading into a place where he won at just last season.

For Truex, it’s been all about Furniture Row Racing and Joe Gibbs Racing partnering up. He has the resources, the cars and the teammates to compete week in and week out, something that he never really had in his Cup career before 2015.

With a familiar racetrack and a surge of momentum all playing into the equation, there’s no doubt the No. 78 will be strong again this weekend.
