Loser: Toyota Teams

Heading into Pocono, Toyota had enjoyed it’s dominance in NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series as a Toyota car had won eight out of 13 races, including seven out of the last eight.

Things did not go as well on Monday. Matt Kenseth (7th) and Carl Edwards (8th) were the only Toyota drivers to finish in the top-10. Denny Hamlin went on to finish 14th and the last Joe Gibbs Racing driver, Kyle Busch, finished 31st after hitting the wall late.

Martin Truex Jr. struggled after his dominant performance at Charlotte. Early on, he was hit by Matt DiBenedetto in the pits. Truex eventually worked his way up to first after a risky pit stop but immediately came back around to pit road after learning that he had a flat tire. He would go on to finish 19th.

David Ragan of BK Racing finished 23rd while his teammate, DiBenedetto, finished 40th after spinning on Lap 2 and wrecking later on.

While its only a matter of time before Toyota gets back to competing for wins, it was certainly odd not seeing any of them battling at the front during the final stages of the race.

Kurt Busch would go on to end Toyota’s win streak of three races and give Chevrolet their fourth win of the season.
