Winner: Tony Stewart

As we all know, Tony Stewart is trying to qualify for the Chase in his final season in the Sprint Cup Series. Since he missed the first eight races of the season due to a back injury, he was granted a Chase waiver, stating that he must get a win and be at least 30th in the standings to make NASCAR’s postseason.

Last weekend at Pocono he was hanging around before being involved in a wreck that resulted in a 34th-place finish and a drop in the standings.

This weekend, he entered Michigan with plenty to look forward to. In the past, Stewart had earned a win at the track to go along with 12 top-5’s and 20 top-10’s.

He started in 3rd and and hovered around the top-10 all day long, eventually finishing 7th. It wasn’t a win, but it was certainly helpful for his future, as he has just 11 more races left before the Chase begins.

Stewart earned enough points to move from 36th to 35th in the standings and now sits just 45 points back of Brian Scott (30th).
