From the Big Screen to the Podium

While Steve McQueen played a racecar driver at Le Mans on the big screen, Patrick Dempsey has lived it. Famous for his role on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, Dempsey is also an accomplished sports car racer and collector, having raced in many major events including the Baja 1000, 24 Hours of Daytona, and 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Like many who race at Le Mans, racing flows in Dempsey’s blood. While his day job may be acting on television and in movies, cars and racing are an equal passion for him. He was part owner of Vision Racing in the IndyCar Series, and owned his team in the former Rolex Sports Car Series. Most recently, he was part owner of Dempsey-Proton Racing, competing in the World Endurance Championship.

In 2015, Patrick Dempsey finally made a dream come true, finishing on the podium in the GTE-Am class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It was the culmination of a long-term goal for Dempsey, and while he is not racing in 2016, we all look forward to the day he returns to the track.
